Craig Smith Music: Destination Wedding & Event Piano in Spain, Italy & France

Destination Wedding Pianist in Spain, Italy & France

About Craig

Craig is a highly sought-after session musician based in the North West of England. He works in various fields including touring, weddings and events, and composition/production, and his CV includes work for and alongside several platinum-selling and chart-topping artists including Bryan Adams, Paloma Faith and Pixie Lott.

This background, combined with musicianship rarely rivalled and a contemporary pop-based repertoire has led to him being one of the busiest event pianists in the UK.

He is also available for destination events (packages start at £600) and has enjoyed performing everywhere from castles to city jazz clubs, at sunset beach parties, in pretty alpine village squares and on the shores of Italian lakes.

Original piano arrangements of favourite songs, which can be adapted to suit your tastes mean there is something for every couple, guest, venue and ambiance. For wedding ceremonies, all of the music is your choice - there is no pre-set list that you are asked to choose from, nor is there any charge to learn new music. For all other types of performance, requests are available to guests on the day as well as to the couple in advance, meaning that you get the music you want performed by one of the best there is.

Why do couples travel musicians to destination weddings?

Along with photography, music is one of the parts of any big day that creates those all-important memories. They're the parts that have to be right, and that means using the right people, with experience and flair, and the style that best represents you as a couple.

In other words: Finding “the one” doesn't finish with finding the right partner!

Anecdotally, there are four main reasons for bringing suppliers to your destination:

  1. They're the supplier for you: if you find the person that provides exactly what you want for your wedding, compromise simply isn't an option.
  2. Communication: dependent on your destination, it may be that finding an English speaking supplier isn't an option. For British-based couples it can be very important to source suppliers in the UK, where it is possible to meet, discuss plans, see them at work, and build a rapport and trust ahead of an investment in the biggest day of their lives.
  3. Quality: many (although by no means all) ex-pat musicians are part-timers with day jobs. You only have to sit in many live music venues abroad to hear that the standard isn't great, and when only the best is good enough it means bringing the best to you!
  4. Availability: given the seasonal nature of resorts abroad, it can be difficult to find quality local suppliers at certain times of the year. Whilst that is true too of UK-based suppliers, they do tend to be set up for year-round work rather than seasonality and can therefore guarantee their availability further in advance.

How does it work?

Currently, given the questions posed by Brexit and Covid, Craig is only accepting destination bookings for 2022 onwards.

Which destinations does Craig cover?

Craig primarily focuses on Spain (he speaks Spanish), France and Italy, although any destination is considered and can be priced as a bespoke package.

Can a piano be provided?

Currently, other than venues in the north of France that Craig can drive to and transport his own equipment (subject to the outcome of Brexit talks), a piano should be provided at your venue. You're probably looking for a pianist because your venue has a piano, but don't worry if it doesn't!

If your venue doesn't have a piano, in many resorts there are local “backline” hire companies from whom pianos and other necessary equipment can be sourced from less than €100 a day. This should be something your venue and/or wedding planner can advise upon.

Other Considerations

So, you've got a piano sorted, what else needs to be considered?

Destination wedding piano bookings are payable in three parts: a date retainer, a payment for travel and accommodation costs, and the performance fee itself.

Date retainers are non-refundable and pay Craig to keep your date (and any necessary date either side) reserved exclusively for you.

In addition to Craig's performance fee (packages available on request), clients are asked to reimburse all travel costs, along with accommodation, and this can be done as soon as a date retainer has been paid to secure the booking. It often proves more cost effective for Craig to hire a car at the airport than to provide transfers.

For peace of mind, it is worth considering having Craig arrive the day before your event. If you're having a pre-wedding dinner the night before, he's then also available to play during this if you wish!

Craig does not need to be accommodated at your venue; accommodation within walking distance will be fine. It usually works out more simple — and saves money — for Craig to arrange his own accommodation through Air BnB or similar, unless of course you have a quota of rooms to fill within your venue hire.

Final balances are payable two weeks before the wedding and cover the performance and rehearsal time ahead of the big day.

There are three "standard" destination wedding piano packages available on which to book Craig, but bespoke packages can be put together to suit your needs. Current pricing is available as a download - just complete the form above.

One-Night Packages

Option A

For performances earlier in the day

Option B

For performances later in the day

Two-Night Package

Two-night packages offer the peace of mind that Craig will arrive at your destination the day before the event but also give you more flexibility about when you have your music, as he won't leave until the day after. Given that he's on location, included within the package is the option of a second performance at dinner the night before the wedding/event.

* option to extend performance

Happy Customers

Craig never asks for references. Once you've had your big day, you want to be left alone in peace to enjoy your first days of married life; the last thing you want it suppliers pestering you for reviews, or worse: award nominations! Still, most couples do choose to get in touch at some point when things have settled down, with letters, cards and emails of thanks and recommendation. Please browse below just a small selection of these. There are many more on Craig's Facebook Page.

Personal Songs

Craig was the pianist at my wedding, he played before the ceremony, during the ceremony and at the drinks reception. Craig did an amazing job, we got so many comments on how beautiful his playing was. Craig did not require us to pick from a song list and we got all the personal songs we wanted on the day performed perfectly by Craig... even the lego movie theme tune. Craig really was an amazing addition to our wedding!

Absolutely Fantastic!

five star rating on Facebook

I booked Craig & John to play piano and sax at our wedding on 4th February 2018. They were absolutely fantastic! They played music during our service and reception and it was warming and beautiful. So happy! I requested a handful of songs that meant something to us but then decided to let John and Craig decide the rest and we were not disappointed. Complete professionals, friendly and such stars! Highly recommend! Thank you so much, you made our day!

Our Guests Were Awestruck

five star rating on Facebook

We got married on Saturday 17th September and were literally blown away by Craig. He is so talented and genuinely made our day. Craig set the atmosphere so perfectly and our guests were awestruck. He even helped me do my speech by playing along with cards I held. Nothing was too much and he played so beautifully, I had tears in my eyes. Thank you so much Craig, you're the best!

Had Me In Tears!

My husband and I would like to say a massive thank you for the beautiful music you arranged and played at our wedding on the 13th of August. My entrance music was just perfect and even though the day went by in such a blur, I'll always remember hearing it before I came in the room, it had me in tears! It was all so beautiful and our guests loved it.
